Hot Wax | Cold Wax: Exhibit by Candace Forrette and Brownie Snyder

Bozeman, MT (01.17.2024) – The Zoot Art Gallery in Bozeman is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibit, “Hot Wax | Cold Wax”. The display, presented by Billings artists Candace Forrette and Brownie Snyder, delivers a mix of new works that explore using encaustic wax mediums in altered states. The most significant difference between encaustic (hot wax) and cold wax is that with encaustic painting the wax must be molten to work with, and then reheated (fused) once applied to the surface, whereas in cold wax painting there is no heat involved.

Forrette’s work with encaustic wax explores the medium while expressing the finding of one’s way through difficult times.  Snyder’s work, primarily in cold wax, is centered on the use of the medium to explore the aesthetics of aging, deterioration of objects, and the undoing of stability.

The exhibit will be on view from January 3 through March 29, 2024, with a public opening reception Friday, January 26, from 5-7 pm at Zoot Enterprises.

Zoot is committed to championing the Montana art community. The corporate exhibit space is open to the public and hosts rotating works by Montana artists for the enjoyment of employees and the community. The gallery has an expansive open area for sculpture and boasts over 100 square feet of vertical exhibit surfaces. One exhibiting artist described it as “…arguably the finest gallery space in the area.”

All work sold through the gallery is commission-free. The exhibits of Montana-only artists rotate approximately every three months and are selected by the Zoot Committee for the Arts.

Public hours are 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. For more information, visit the Zoot art gallery website at zootartgallery.com or contact Carol Lehmann, Gallery Coordinator, at carol.lehmann@zootweb.com.
